Weekend Round-Up: 29th April - 1st May

It seems the season has official kicked of for KiT and thus the weekend round-ups are back! A few members did the Filton Aqualathon including; Neil Parker, Chris Norris and Steven Baker (whose first multisport event it was – welcome to the club.) Becky Hayward didn’t waste anytime in starting her silverware collection for the year. Placing first Female over the line.

The Big T was the first “club” event of the year with plenty of members racing and again producing some strong results. Becky further adding to her collection with a 3rd place, but apparently could do with some sign reading skills to improve her performance. We’ll set you up for a session with the Eel to sort that out.

The Big T was the first Triathlon for a few including one of our youngest members Charlie, well done Charlie!

Meanwhile in warmer climates Team Kerfoot were at the European Age Group Sprint Duathlon Championships representing not only KiT but also GB. Here are a few words from Neil Kerfoot on the event and how they got on:

“This weekend Tom, Michelle and I all got to wear GB trisuits over our long sleeved and legged warmer clothing and take part in the European Sprint Duathlon championships.

It took place in Soria in northern Spain at 1070m above sea level (top of Snowdon 1086m!) so not much air! Great for cycling but not for running hard.

Arrived for course recce Friday, watched the elites on Saturday and prayed the artic temperatures and rain and wind forecast did not arrive for race start 8:30am Sunday. Breakfast at 5am Sunday and then to transition.

Picture attached in us before the race - an after race shot would not have been as tidy!! The forecast weather was windy and bracing but not cold and dry thank God! Tom off first at 8:30 in the 16-19, Me next at 8:36 (50-54) and then Michelle in the 45-49 at 8:42.

5k run sounds short but no air so we were all relieved I think to complete and then begin the Bike into an awesome wind. Into the wind out and with the wind back then repeat. Tom managed highest speed on TT Bike at 46mph.

Then around the run course again for 2.5k and into the finish grabbing a flag to wave as we crossed the line Chuffed with results. Tom and Michelle came 10th in their age groups and I came 17th in mine.

Drinking lager whilst watching the standard distance run at 11 in the morning post race felt so right. Was an awesome family experience.”

And if that was enough for one weekend Phillippa Crocker was off in the Brecon Beacons doing something a bit different - The OMM Biklite, a 2 day Mountain Bike Enduro! What a great start to the season! Good work team KiT!
